Fun Outdoor Cardio Ideas

Posted by Ashley Baal on August 18, 2010

Summer is the perfect time for outdoor activities that provide you with the cardio your body needs to stay healthy. There are a variety of different outdoor cardio methods you can do, so changing them amongst each other regularly will help prevent boredom from setting in while helping you progress optimally. Here are some to consider:

1. Running stairs: Running up and down bleacher stairs at either a baseball field or football field is a fun and easy way to get your heart rate going.

2. Rollerblading: Rollerblading is a fun, past-time activity that strengthens your quads while burning calories.

3. Swimming: Swimming gets specific muscles working that other forms of exercise can’t get to. It also cools you off in the hot Summer heat!

4. Beach Running: Running in the sand at the beach is more of a challenge that works out all parts of your body, while catching a nice tan!

5. Hiking: Hiking is a great alternative for running.

Ah the fun of summer. I just simply love all those outdoor activities I especially like to run. Before you know it the colder weather will be upon us any advice for outdoor exersise as the temp drops?

Ahh, I hate running in the winter… your lungs get freezer burn with every breath. It’s possible to condition yourself for cold weather runs, you just have to be consistent with your schedule. If you’re not up for running try snow biking with a pair of high-traction tires for your bike. Snowshoeing is a great way to exercise in the winter, providing cardio and resistance. Other options are cross country skiing and ice skating. If all else fails, get a shovel and wait for the snow, it’s sure to burn calories!
